Into the Unknown

This game is the result of my 2 year long research through poetry and how I tried to combine this with different game design elements. I was looking for ways to to strengthen the poetic elements and to give players a personal experience.

Premise

This takes the player to a series of mysterious rooms, where the player
does not know where he/she will end up. Throughout these rooms, the player gets several
interactions that lean towards certain aspects or feelings, coming from personal written poetry.

Goal

The general concept of this game is that the feelings of the player are central. I want to give the player as much 'emotional freedom' as possible, because the reaction to poetry is different for each person. It is this personal reaction that is at the heart of these interactions.

VR

It's been quite a ride, to come up with different interactions which engage the player. That's also the reason i developped this game for a VR device. This platform gives players more freedom and really make the player feel, that he is inside the virtual world.

Possibilities

some interactions work well togehther with poetry because of it's simplicity and everyday use. A telephone is a device that's straight forward to use. Players don't need a tutorial for it. It contains quite a lot of mechanics which can be used to tell a story or to present a emotion.

The dialling of a certain phone number gives the player a lot of freedom, there is also no way for someone toget it wrong, you just need a few outcomes that you can guide the player to.

Outcome

This is not a finished and pollished game. I see it as a vertical slice, where I created tools and mechanics that could work in a poetic setting. I used: voice-overs, lighting, level design, VR interactions... To give players different feelings, emotions and most of all, I gave them some room to think about everything they come across. I want them to each think about their journey and how it impacted them.
