This mural was the first one I ever did. They gave me complete freedom to expres my own style and color scheme. The only thing they asked, was to implement a couple of elements that linked to the city and the building it was in.

Progress

The progress didn't really match the first design I came up with. The colors didn't came out as vibrant as the digital version. In these situations you need to go with the flow and trust the process. I kept mixing colors that I thought would work together and would fit in in with the overall piece.

Final mural

I ended up with a much softer color pallet, that gave this mural a much softer appearance. The bold black outline really made all come together as one coherent piece of art.

This second mural, I was asked to do, was a lot smaller than the first. They also gave me the same guidelines as the previous one: My own style and design, but different elements that are linked to the building.

Method

With the design of this mural, I tried something different. I first laid out my design using 3D objects. I did this because then i could easily adjust composition and perspective.

After rendering the image in 3D, I started with choosing the right colors and places where the shadows would hit.

Setback

Getting a lot of freedom can sometimes lead to a setback. In my case, they didn't like the surrounding elements: the knife, the tentacle... They thought these elements didn't have anything to do with the building or the city. So they asked me to change it up.

My response was a completely new design. With moslty elements that captured the building and the city.
